Keeping in Touch with Ethan & Olivia

Sunday, January 21, 2007

We had a busy weekend. On Saturday, Ethan and Scott went to Sportball. It's a 8 week program and each week they learn how to play a new sport. The first week was soccer and this week was basketball. The coach told Scott/Ethan that Ethan was so co-ordinated he could move up to the next level if he wanted - our little athlete!!!

After Sportball we went to my friend Charlotte's birthday party at an indoor playground. Ethan had a lot of fun and was very happy to see his friend Shelby. Since I have been back at work he doesn't get to see her as much, he refers to her as his best friend!! Here are some pictures of Olivia at the indoor playground, the battery ran out before I got any pictures of Ethan.

Last night I went out for dinner to help my friend Nicola celebrate her stagette. She is getting married in Mexico in April. We had a great dinner in Toronto, it was so fun to see everyone. The rest of the gang went to Niagara Falls clubbing, but I came home after dinner and spent the night cleaning - sad isn't it???

Today we had the Topolski's, the Thornton's and Tim and Katie over for brunch to celebrate Steph's birthday. As always, it was great to see everyone and we had a great time. Jerry, Michele, Truman and Morrie stayed over for a little bit longer and we watched the football game. Truman had fun playing in the Step N' Play Piano and Olivia practiced her walking a bit. Ethan was in underwear all day and only had a couple of accidents. He seems to be getting the hang of toilet training, I think he loves the incentives (i.e.: usually chocolate balls).

I am trying to see if Olivia will fall asleep on her own tonight, so far she's still awake. Her ear infection has cleared up so we will have to wait and see what happens after she stops the antibiotics. She is turning into a great little eater...Got to go resuce her....

Toilet Training

We had a very exciting weekend around here. I think Ethan is almost toilet trained, which is quite amazing since this is one of the first times we really tried to encourage him to use the potty. Yesterday I just happened to ask him if he wanted to go pee on the potty and he said yes. Then he went to the bathroom and actually went!! Since then he has gone (both #1 and #2) about 5-6 times. Tonight he started telling me when he had to go and then he would go and sit and actually go the bathroom (usually before this he would sit but nothing would happen!! So we will see what happens tommorrow but he did really well this weekend! We had such fun together tonight, he was so proud of himself!

As well, after doing the map of the world puzzle with Scott about twice, he can now do the 24 piece floor puzzle all by himself. He is a pretty amazing little guy!!! Hopefully this interest in the world puzzle won't translate into a hunger for travelling like his Grampy and Auntie Jen. I would rather he stay close to home (and me) forever!

Olivia is doing great, no sign of a return of the ear infection, so we are crossing our fingers. She actually crawled a little bit tonight on the kitchen floor. Her most favourite way of moving is still rolling around although she is quite interested in walking while holding into your hands. She is losing interest in baby food for the most part and her new favourtie food seems to be risotto. Although unlike her brother, she seems more willing to try new foods. She also liked the grapes she had today and the pasta she had last night. She is also continuing to "talk" a lot, she has such a sweet little voice.

Here is some pictures of Olivia and Ethan playing downstairs.

Happy Belated New Year

I can't believe it's January 2007 already! 2006 certainly flew by fast! My little girl is no longer a baby. She is doing great, after spending a couple months with "mama" as her favourite word, she has added "dada" and "nana" to her vocabulary over the past couple of weeks. She also lots of other "words" that don't quite make sense yet. She is also enjoying (yes, enjoying) playing on her tummy and now rolls around to get to wherever she needs. Although she has been rolling since about 5 months, she rarely rolled from back to stomach because she HATED her stomach, but that has all changed. She is also starting to take some steps (while holding on to someone/something) and will hopefully be walking in a month or two. She is still battling her ear infection but we are hopefully that this latest round of antibiotics does the trick!! She gets her ears checked again on Friday.

Ethan had a first tonight - he ate peas and some roasted potatoes. Now the vegetables had to be alternated with chocolate balls, but he ate the vegetables nonetheless. Luckily for us, the chocolate balls were sugar-free, so he didn't develop a sugar high. Nana and Carly came over to help Paula take care of Ethan and Olivia today. They all had a great time. We are very happy so far with Paula and both Ethan and Olivia really seem to like her.

We celebrated New Year's Eve by having our good friends, the Topolski's, the Smith's and Walshy over for some Thai take-out. We missed the Thornton's, as Christine and Steph weren't feeling well. We hope they are feeling better soon. As Scott had Walshy to keep him company, I was asleep with Olivia before midnight.

On Saturday, we went to my friend Kiki's son's 2nd Birthday party. It was at the same indoor playground as Ethan's second birthday. He had a great time playing with Jack, Abby, Katie, Lauren and George. Jack and Ethan especially liked playing air hockey (and Scott and Rob got in on the fun too).
On Friday night we went to St. Catharines and had dinner with Michelle, Kevin, Casey and Bailey. Ethan LOVES playing with Casey and Bailey and we had a great time. It was nice to go out for dinner and have a yummy meal, especially when Ethan and Olivia were both very well behaved.

Here's some picture from the Birthday Party...
