Keeping in Touch with Ethan & Olivia

Sunday, July 30, 2006

I thought that it was hot here a couple of weeks ago, but the past couple of days have been even worse!! As a result, we have not been doing very much.

On Tuesday, Olivia and I went to Toronto. I had to sign some papers at work and we have lunch with Scott. We went to the park after we picked Ethan up from school, tried Olivia in the swing - she wasn't a huge fan!

On Wednesday, Nana and Carly came to visit. We went shopping at Sherway Gardens. Carly gave Nana and I a heart attack when she disappeared for about 20 minutes. She "disappeared" into her favourite store Claire's. Luckily we found her!

On Thursday, Carly and I went with the kids swimming at Bronte Creek. We only stayed for a little while because it was hot and Olivia was a little bit cranky (she is getting her two front teeth). We went to soccer but were only there for about 10 minutes because of rain and thunder.

On Friday, we just did some errands. Ethan played with Aidan for a little while at night. We bought a special incentive chart for Ethan to encourage him to listen! So far, hasn't worked to well, what he likes to do is not listen until the punishment (i.e. - time out or taking toys away) and then he is always "ready to listen".

On Saturday, Scott went golfing and to a wedding (Chris Cairns) in Muskoka, so it was just me and the kids. It was Nana's birthday, so we went to see her in St. Catharines for a couple of hours. Ethan was a mess for most of the day - had a fever. The only thing that helped was Tylenol. It made for a very long day!! I ended up taking him to the wallk-in clinic because he behaviour was so out of character. Once we got there, he was his old self, making new friends with the other patients. He asks everyone what their name is and what are they doing - it's funny to see the surprised look on people's faces!!

Today, we did some more errands while Scott was out at soccer and really just hung out at home for the rest of the day - nothing too exciting.

Bike Riding

On Friday, Scott and Ethan came home with a new bike for Ethan. He still hasn't quite got the hang of it. I think this bike may be a little to big, Scott rang into a good saleslady. We still need to get him a helmet, so he's only tried it out once.

On Saturday, we went to visit Lynn, Gerry and Shelby for a bbq at their cottage in Turkey Point. It was a horrible day, rained pretty much the whole time, but the kids had fun. Neither one of them slept much on the way there, but were in pretty good spirits until right near the end.

On Sunday, Olivia and I went to a baby shower. Our good friends, Jerry and Michele, are expecting their first son in September. It was during Olivia's naptime, but she did pretty well. I am attaching a picture of her in the baby's new room, she really liked all the colours. You can see her smiling, usually the camera is too slow and I miss it!! Ethan and Scott hung out at home. We then went to the Brick to buy a new mattress in the hopes that this will help me sleep better. Our current one was a hand me down from my dad and is at least 15 years old. Ethan had lots of fun jumping on the mattresses and playing on the bunkbeds!

Today, Olivia and I went to Gymboree. She didn't like it so much today, got mad when I tried to make her do tummy time!! Ethan was not happy at all about going to daycare. He started crying when I turned in the direction of the school. He tried to pull one over on me, he asked if Pauline, one of his teachers was going to be there. I said yes, thinking that he was looking forward to seeing her. He replied "I don't like Pauline and I don't want to go" - too funny. He also tried telling me that daddy already took him to preschool last night, so there wasn't any preschool today. As usual though, once he was there and calmed down after I left, he had a good time.

The last picture is one of Olivia. As you can see, she sitting up great and drooling a ton!

Overnight Guests

On Wednesday, Nana and Carly came over to visit. Ethan had a great time playing with Nana and Carly, especially Nana who lets him get away with ANYTHING!!!! Olivia and I went to the library group and had fun. Carly and I tried to make chocolate turtle cheesecake, but we did something wrong because the cheesecake never set. Oh well, we thought we would try it again next week!

On Thursday, we went to Bronte Creek with Carly. It was great for Ethan because the water is very shallow and he could swim around. Olivia also like swimming in the water, she was giggling away. Ethan didn't get to go to soccer because it was raining. Scott's university friend, Deb and her family came over for dinner and to spend the night. Ethan had a great time playing with their two kids, Michael and Alexis. We he woke up this morning, he wanted to play with his friends, but they had already left!

Today, we went to Nelson Park with Dana, Charlotte and Carson. Ethan and Charlotte had fun playing in the wading pool. Olivia is getting her first tooth. She doesn't seem to be too bothered by this. Ethan got his first tooth a couple months later, so hopefully Olivia doesn't do any biting!!!

Catching Up

We have had some overnight visitors this week, which made it hard to post...

On Monday, Olivia and I went to Gymboree. She really seemed to like it, especially the parachute, she was smiling away when she was underneath it.

I am attaching a picture of her eating carrots, she really seems to like them. She has also had peaches and pears and likes them all.

On Tuesday, Olivia had to go and get a needle. Ethan came with us. When he got home from school, he wanted to play doctor. He checked out Michelle's throat, ears and arm. Maybe he is going to follow in his grampie's footsteps!!

Hot Hot Hot

For those of you who hate the hot, humid weather, be glad that you are not here in southern Ontario. This might turn into a bi-weekly, as opposed to a daily blog, despite my best intentions!

We had a busy weekend. On Saturday, my friends from London came down - Erin and Vince and their two kids, Nico and Emelia and Rhona and Dean and their three kids, Nicholas, Erica and Josh. We all went to Coronation Park where the kids played in the splash pad and on the beach. Once again, throwing rocks into the lake was a popular event. We then came back and had a bbq. The kids all played well together and it was great seeing everybody. In one of the pictures, you can see Nico and Ethan helping Erin peel the corn.

On Sunday, it was so hot that we didn't do very much during the day. In the afternoon, we all went shopping and bought a couple of things for the kids. After dinner, Ethan and I went to see his first movie "Cars", while Scott and Olivia hung out at home. Ethan ate a whole bucket of popcorn and loved the movie. We left before the end because once the popcorn was done, Ethan wanted to get up and "explore" the movie theatre.

Swimming in Burlington

Today we went swimming at the Durcan's in Burlington. My friend Rebecca and her 4 month old son were visiting her parents and we were invited for lunch and a swim. Olivia may have found her first boyfriend, Harry, a younger man. They were holding hands!!!

Ethan had his second soccer game today, they practiced being goalies. Ethan was more interested in scoring, he didn't want to be a goalie. It was very hot. The difference between little baby boys and little boys is that little boys sweat!!!! He was full of sweat by the end!!!!

We then we to the Firehall for dinner. Ethan loves playing on the firetruck.

Rain Rain Go Away

It poured buckets on Wednesday. So Ethan, Olivia, Auntie Michelle, Carly and I headed to the indoor playground where we met up with Ethan's friends Charlotte and Shelby. They had a lot of fun playing in the pit of balls. Olivia sat in the balls for a while but she quickly became covered in the balls.

In the afternoon Olivia went to her second library group. She met a 10 month old friend that she enjoyed playing with - which at this stage is really just touching her hand and staring at her. She had fun and was really well behaved.

The Movies

Today Olivia spent the morning jumping in her jolly jumper. In the afternoon, Olivia and I went to the movies with our friends Dana and Carson. We saw the Devil Wears Prada. Olivia was great, barely made a peep.

Ethan was happy to see us after school. He wanted to drive home, but I decided that I should drive home instead.

Weekend Visitors

We had a busy weekend. On Saturday, Nana Sullivan came to visit. She is staying with us until Monday. Ethan and Olivia are very excited to be able to spend time with one of their great nanas. As well, Harry, Carolyn and Carly came over to help us finish planting our garden. Ethan had a great time playing at the waterpark with Carly.

On Sunday, Nana Sullivan, Ethan, Olivia and I went to Coronation Park to throw some rocks into the lake. It's amazing how something so simple amuses Ethan for so long. Ethan ended off the day playing with his best buddy Aidan.

Today was a relaxing day. Ethan is at school. Nana Sullivan, Olivia and I hung around the house. We did not know when Doug and Susan were going to arrive to pick up Nana Sullivan. I am just waiting for Olivia to wake up for her nap so that we can go get Ethan from school.

Bronte Creek

Today we went to Bronte Creek with my friend Dana, her daughter, Charlotte and her son, Carson. The kiddies had fun looking at all the farm animals, especially the baby ones. Ethan wanted to "pet" the ducks, but surprisingly, no luck. The pictures aren't great because it was hard to get Ethan and Charlotte in one place, together, looking at the camera. Olivia had a nap and had fun playing with her feet while in the stroller!

After dinner, Olivia and I went for a run while, Scott and Ethan played with Aidan. Ethan was a very good sharer with his bike. He doesn't quite have the hang of pedaling the bike, he prefers the Fred Flinstone method because it's faster. Hopefully he will grow out this need for speed by the time he turns 16!

Pictures from Today

Here are a couple of pictures from today's adventures... It was hard to get an action shot of Ethan, maybe next week.

The Soccer Player

Getting better, only one day behind...

On Tuesday, the kiddies were a little cranky, going back to work seemed like a good idea. Auntie Michelle came over to watch Ethan while Olivia and I went to her first library group. Lots of fun songs and rattle shaking. I think she had fun, but we left a little bit early because she was tired. After Ethan's nap, we brought out Ethan's sand table and had fun playing in the backyard.

Today was a very busy day. We went swimming at Papa's with Auntie Michelle and Carly. We then headed off to the golf club to meet Nana and her friends for lunch. Ethan and Olivia were both very well behaved. Ethan had fun asking everyone what their name was and what they were doing!

The highlight of the day was that Ethan started Sportball/Soccer today. We picked Scott up at the GO train station and headed to the park (with a little help from Jerry). Ethan had tons of fun playing with the soccer drills and "scoring" on the teachers. They gave him a special soccer jersey and he was already asking to play soccer again tomorrow (unfortunately he has to wait again until next Thursday).

Catching Up

Not off to a good start with the blog. I am already a couple days behind...

We had a great weekend. On Sunday we went to Chudleigh's Farm with Jeff, Deb and Aidan. Ethan had fun with the animals and went on a pony ride. We then went to a golf course nearby for lunch. Ethan ordered his first meal - when it came his turn, he said to the waitress "chicken nuggets and french fries please", it was very cute. Sunday night we went to Jeff, Deb and Aidan's for a delicious dinner. Ethan and Aidan had fun playing in Aidan's swimming pool. This picture makes it look like Ethan needs to go on a diet, perhaps a diet of fruits and veggies!!

Monday we went to Jerry and Michele's for a bbq. Ethan had fun playing with Morrie and Christine. He wasn't too sure about Tzen and Tasha brand new puppy who kept jumping up on him and licking him!!!

Today, Olivia and I had a nice relaxing day. Ethan was at daycare - he was a little bit sad today when we left, they told me that it took him a while to settle down - poor little guy. Olivia tried pears for the first time and loved them. We all went to the park tonight and Olivia loved the swing.

As soon as I figure out how to post pictures, I will add them in. It will (hopefully) make the blog more interesting....

Canada Day

We decided to create a blog about Ethan and Olivia so that our out of town relatives can keep connected with us. (Really we got this great idea from our good friends Ben and Steph who are doing the same thing!)

Today we went to see the Blue Jays game with Michelle, Kevin, Casey and Bailey. Ethan had a great time, he loved the fireworks after the game. When we came home Scott and Ethan watched the fireworks from the windows until after 10:00 p.m.

Olivia is feeling much better, the antibiotics must be working!
